St. Lucia's Day, celebrated on December 13, is a Scandinavian Festival of Lights. It signals the beginning of the Christmas season, celebrating hope and light during the long winter months. Usually the eldest daughter is chosen to represent St. Lucia in Scandinavian families, dressing in white with a lighted evergreen wreath on her head, and serving the family coffee and baked goods.
If you're feeling a little unsure about your own kiddo wearing a lighted wreath, our charming little St. Lucia Pewter Ornament makes a good stand-in, serving as a reminder of this special day in December. (We especially like the little coffee pot our St. Lucia is holding.)
Pewter (2 2/3" x 1 3/8" plus red satin ribbon). Comes packaged in a clear sleeve with a bookmark.
